We stand in unequivocal solidarity with the trans community. We respond to the Trans Pride Collective and their members’ open letter calling on Pride events across the UK to stand with trans people. We agree with this call and stand alongside.
We are ONE community and we therefore announce that we have barred all political parties from having a presence at our Pride on 14th June, No political party shall be allowed to hire a stall or march with us, nor shall they be invited to make any speeches. This has been our policy since the transphobic ruling of the UK Supreme Court.
We 100% agree with and echo the entirety of The Trans Pride Collective and members’ statement that states:
‘Our trans, non-binary and intersex communities are under an ideological attack right now. Politicians are openly debating how to remove our basic human rights. The mainstream media is hostile to platforming our voices, and very few people with real power are standing up for us.
Pride is and always has been a protest. It is a chance for all members of the LGBTQIA+ community to show solidarity with their siblings and niblings, offering support and community for those who are among the most vulnerable in society. History shows that when we firmly stand together, we can defeat those who wish to oppress us. We have fought for our rights arm in arm with our lesbian, gay, bisexual and queer allies since the dawn of time and once again, we are asking you to make a stand for the trans, non-binary and intersex community.
We recognise that many allies are politicians, especially those who are both trans or non-binary and a politician. We know that they understand how desperate and how traumatised our community is feeling right now. We kindly ask all UK Pride organisations to tell these allies that they can still attend Pride, but as individuals, not as political party representatives. Ask them to come and enjoy the sunshine with us, have conversations with trans people, really listen to us about how much we appreciate loud and proud allyship but please, give us the space we need, away from party politics, to figure out how best to support our communities.’
Join us at the Dundee Pride March on 14th June to remind everyone that this is indeed a protest.
